The warm weather over the next couple of days should finally melt the remaining snow on the paths and clear the bike lanes of the snow that the city plows left behind. Now is a perfect time to pick up the new Bike Map and start exploring the city on your bike. The 2003 Bike Map includes the new Bikeway Network projects that were completed last year such as the bike lanes on Shuter Street and River Street, the contra flow lane on Montrose Avenue, the new path along the north side of Lake Shore Boulevard East and others.

Toronto Bike Map cover
Toronto's new Bike Map is available now.
The new map also has improvements in its design based on recommendations from cyclists and discussion at the Toronto Cycling Committee meetings. One of these is that most street names are included on the new map. The new map also has a lot more cycling related information on topics such as bicycle safety, City of Toronto cycling programs and contact numbers to report problems on the roads or trails.

The map is free and should be available at City of Toronto community centres and public libraries. They may also start showing up at your local bike shop. There should be an online version of the map posted at the City of Toronto Cycling web site. Currenly the link points to the old map. When it is updated I will post a followup. The map was launched at the Bike Show on March 2nd, 2003 and will also be available at City of Toronto cycling events during the year such as Bike Week.

The map will be revised and updated every year as part of the Bike Plan. This being the first edition there may be some errors. If you find places where the map does not align with reality send an e-mail to bikeplan@toronto.ca with an explanation of what needs to be changed.
