Bike Week 2003 is officially over but there will be cycling news and events continuing all summer. A good source of news for City of Toronto events, meetings and Toronto Bike Plan developments is the Cyclometer. Cyclometer is a publication of the City of Toronto that is the voice of the Toronto Cycling Committee. It once was a paper publication but now in the age of the internet it is now e-mailed out to its subscribers. You can subscribe at the City of Toronto's Web site Subsribe to Cycling News. The web page for the Cyclometer has been redesigned so that you can see the back issues of the cyclometer. You can see the types of news and announcments that you will get when you subscribe. Actually you can subscribe to three different e-mail lists at the site: the Cyclometer, a monthly news letter and also to two other announcement lists which send out news periodically. One is for reports on the Toronto Bike Plan the other is to receive announcements of cycling related events and community meetings. One of the types of meetings that are announced are community consultations on future Bike Plan projects such as Bike Lanes. It is important that cyclists attend these and express their support and give their feedback on how to better implement the projects. These mailings are a good way to keep informed of what is happening in your city and in your particular area. When you sign up you are asked to enter your City Ward number if you are a resident of Toronto. If you don't know your Ward number there is a link to look it up. This is so that announcements about meetings in a particular Ward can be sent to people in that Ward. It is also an indirect gauge of the interest in cycling issues in all of the wards. In a sense by signing up you are sending a message in support of making Toronto more bicycle friendly. To date there are over 1200 people signed up for The Cyclometer and the other City of Toronto Cycling news. This year, one of the goals of the Bike Plan is to increase the number of subscribers to the Cyclometer. Do your part to help reach that goal and sign up: Subscribe to Cycling News Martin Koob tcc-rep@tbn.ca
