Car Free Day is held every year in communities around the world on September 22nd. Its goal is "to encourage and explore alternative forms of transportation and travel other than the use of the private car." as stated on the Car Free Day web site: Car Free Day Motivation.

In Toronto Car Free Day is celebrated by 'Open Your Street' parties around the city. This year there are about 25 street parties around the city. Most are being held this weekend. You can see a list here: Open Your Streets - Toronto 2003". For these events the street is closed and a variety of activities are held on the street such as bike clinics, face painting, chalk drawing, bike repairs, skate board demonstrations etc. Come out and join the fun.
