I received an e-mail announcement from Greg Bonser regarding a meeting to discuss the Portlands Energy Centre. I have quoted the e-mail below.

Publicly Owned Ontario Power Generation and TransCanada Energy want to build a large "environmentally friendly" fossil fuel power plant on our Waterfront (the Portlands Energy Centre (PEC) without doing a full environmental assessment or doing a publicly open energy plan for Toronto!

Public Meeting on the PEC -
Monday December 8, 2003
7 pm to 9 pm
South Riverdale Community Health Centre,
955 Queen Street East (at Carlaw).

The PEC is proceeding under the Mike Harris Environmental Assessment Act. They have completed all the "environmental studies" that they are legally required to do. It is the opinion of many people in the community that these requirements are inadequate. We have until December 12 to send comments in to the Ministry of the Environment to ask for a full, individual Environmental Assessment.
