Come out to at public meeting at Charles H. Best Middle School at 285 Wilmington Ave. to help get a bike lane on Wilmington and Faywood Ave. (Wilmington is just below Finch - Link to Google Maps)

Tuesday July 5th, from 7-9 pm. A half hour public presentation by City staff will begin at 7:15 pm.

Wilmigton stretches between Finch Ave. and Sheppard Ave. halfway between Bathurst St. and Allen Rd. Faywood continues south to Wilson Ave. The bike lane would go half way along to Clanton Park. These streets travel through the heart of a thriving residential community.

Wilmington is currently one six metre wide lane in each direction! YES SIX METRES! This is not a typo!

The City wants to narrow the lanes since that has been proven to reduce car speeds. The North Districts preferred method of doing this; since pre-amalgamation; is to stripe a left turn lane down the full length of the street.

This of course leaves cyclist and cars sharing a much narrower lane.

The local Councillor, Mike Feldman, doesn't understand bike lanes, does not think there will be interest from local residence (although they are mostly families) and doesn't think may people ride on Wilmington.

If you can't attend this meeting e-mail the Councillor at councillor_feldman@toronto.ca

What's the point? This sounds like an academic exercise to a bicycle commuter. I cycle down Wilmington/Faywood almost everyday and it is wide and safe. How about directing resources where it currently is not safe to cycle?
