A news report from the Mirror Guardian Newspaper written by David Nickle alerted us to some good news regarding the Lakeshore East Bicycle Trail. BEACH: Bicycle Path Closer to becoming parkland. Currently the trail and an adjacent sidewalk run on a road right of way. Councillor Councillor Sandra Bussin Ward 32 is proposing removing the road right of way designation so a linear green connection can be maintained from Coxwell Ave to the Don Valley. This would also maintain the continuous bicycle path and adjacent sidewalk that were completed in 2003.

Toronto Cycling Committee(TCC) members Richard Nelson (blue jersey) and Ole Calderone (red jacket) are among the 35 participants who rode to officially open the path in June 2003. (See previous article)

Councillor Bussin's motion proposed the closing of the right of way from the Don Valley to Coxwell Ave. Councillor Bussin's motion This proposal has to be brought to the Toronto and East York Community Council meeting for public comment at its April 8th, 2008 meeting. If you want to speak or send an e-mail in support of this motion you can contact the committee at teycc@toronto.ca. You can also contact Councillor Bussin .

The ultimate goal in this is to designate this green corridor as parkland. Councillor Bussin's motion stated in the background information that City of Toronto staff have been directed to report on rezoning the strip of land as parkland. This would be an important measure to preserve an important link in Toronto's Bikeway Network.
