1.Walking and Cycling to School

Despite the benefits described above, the percentage significantly in recent decades. This decline has contributed traffic congestion, and environmental pollution.

Can you describe what proportion of students walk or cycle to school in your ward?
In Scarborough Agincourt at least 75 % of the students are walking to school. Only 5 % are cycling because of the fear of vandalism and stolen bicycles among the children who are vulnerable.

Answer
Comments I do believed that children and youth must be encouraged to walk and cycle every morning. It will help them think more positively in school , get better grades, make more friends, better fit ,healthy and environmentally friendly.

2.Walking Safety Education

Walking safety programs taught in elementary school play an important role in teaching young children how to walk safely in the city, which reduces accidents and gives children the confidence to begin to walk regularly.

Can you describe the extent to which walking safety is taught in elementary schools in your ward?
The programs are not that effective as I see. The area, Scarborough Agincourt is not that safe anymore because of the violence and crimes as known to be. Since a lot of new immigrants and unemployed are living here and also does not speak English well, they prefer to use the car. Most parents are concerned even myself. There should be a better and equitable Safe School Acts policies that will help build confidence among youth specially the ones suspended and expelled which could lead them to gangs who the ones are making our place walking unsafe.

Answer
Comments Yes, as an athlete myself, more Physical Eds teachers and volunteers to find new ways to improve healthy living to have a quality school system. I would also suggest having all sports competitions among schools with the participation of the whole communities and churches.

3. Cycling Courses

Various levels of cycling courses can be made available at public schools. These courses give students confidence to ride their bikes in the city, and the skills to make sure they can do so safely.

Can you describe the extent to which cycling courses are provided at schools in your ward?
No cycling courses at all! It should be taught and encouraged to children as vital to their cardiovascular system and again improve their studies. Scarborough needs A LOT of attention!!!

Comments Absolutely!! I believed that cycling must be included in the school curriculum as one sports that every child needs to build confidence and self esteem.

4. Bicycle Locking Facilities

In order for students to ride their bikes to school, they must be confident that there are sufficient and secure facilities for them to lock their bikes on school property. However, the provision of such facilities varies widely from school to school.

Can you describe how much provision there is for locking bikes securely on school property in your ward?
Some schools do not have much provision. This should be reviewed and make things safe to keep in order for children to be encouraged to bike.

5. The School Vicinity

Issues with the area around schools can make it dangerous or uncomfortable for students to walk or cycle to school. For example, there may be a dangerous street crossing, traffic may move too quickly, there may be excessive car traffic from parents driving kids to school, sidewalks may be inadequate for the volume of walking student, or there may be a lack of bike lanes leading to the school.

Can you describe any issues with the safety and comfort of students walking or cycling in the vicinity of schools in your ward?
Still, most people are speeding and do not care about the safety of the children. There is one incident that happened in front of the apt building that 2 youth died walking because of speeding. They need more bumps and cross walk signs as suggested.

6. Reducing Car Use

The use of cars to get to and from schools by parents, students, and teachers increases congestion and pollution, and causes danger and discomfort to students and teachers who walk or cycle to school. As well, excessively large school parking lots reduce green space for students and have negative environmental impacts.

Do you support taking measures to reduce the use of cars for transportation to and from school by parents, students, and teachers? If the answer is yes, please describe what measures you would support.

Answer
Comments I strongly believed to have more school buses for children to go to school. In my ward, as I said the population has tripled , congested schools means more cars are picking. Kids need to learn to walk more and bike. It will serve them a lot of purpose in their future.
